Nollywood Mourns the Loss of Veteran Actor Emmanuel France
Nollywood has lost one of its stalwart figures, Emmanuel France, who has passed away at the age of 84.
The news was confirmed by filmmaker Olufemi Ogedengbe via Instagram on Monday, 16 September, where he paid tribute to France as a true legend of the industry.
Ogedengbe reminisced about their collaboration in Tanzania in 2006, where they worked together on films such as “She Is My Sister”, “The Director”, and “Cross My Sin”.
Although the cause of the icon’s death has not been made public, his passing is a significant loss to the Nigerian film community. France, who began his career in Ghana, became well-known for his roles in Nollywood classics like “Domitilla” and “The Curfew”.
Despite confusion about his nationality, France identified himself as a “Gold Coastian” in a 2011 interview, highlighting his complex heritage and connection to both Nigeria and Ghana.
His death adds to a sombre year for Nollywood, which has already seen the loss of several notable actors such as Mr Ibu, Junior Pope and Sisi Quadri. France’s contributions to cinema will be remembered fondly by fans and colleagues alike.
